Ukraine-related acquisitions in 22/23

The University Library’s financial year runs from August to July, so the 2022/23 year has finished only recently.  After the frenzy of last-minute chasing for invoices in late July, this is now a good time to look back on what we have acquired over the year.

In order to look at books the UL has acquired about Ukraine, I performed various searches based on a subject search for Ukrain* – the asterisk at the end allows the search to find Ukraine and Ukrainian, etc.  That search does depend on the cataloguing being complete which won’t be the case yet for everything acquired during the year just finished.  My searches also included the 1st of August 2022 as the creation date for the physical item record (for print material) and for the electronic portfolio (for electronic material).

Searching first for physical material held by the University Library, I found 345 titles.  These will include all books (and journals) new to the UL, whether purchased by our department or received through Legal Deposit or by donation or by transfer from another Cambridge library.  The search might also include a few things already in our collections which lacked an item record until 22/23.  Searching next for electronic material across Cambridge, I found 284 titles, almost entirely ebooks.  There will be a few duplicate entries in there when we have gained access to the same ebook through more than one package.

The main languages represented are English and Ukrainian, but you can see below that there are quite a few others there too.

English 340
French 14
German 23
Hebrew 1
Italian 2
Japanese 2
No linguistic content (music scores) 3
Polish 42
Romanian 1
Russian 22
Spanish 1
Ukrainian 178

You can see all 629 titles in the spreadsheet provided below, which includes a column for the language that you can use to filter what you see.  The last column provides each record’s unique number in the catalogue, so I’d suggest using that in iDiscover.  Do get in touch if you have any questions, at slavonic@lib.cam.ac.uk

Ukraine new physical titles or new electronic portfolios for 22-23

As the 23/24 financial year gets under way, do remember that you can always send in recommendations for titles to purchase.
