Today, Ukrainians and their supporters around the world are marking 3 years since the early morning attacks across Ukraine that saw the country’s worst fears realised – Russia’s full-scale invasion had begun.
Over these three years, Cambridge has acquired hundreds of books in Ukrainian and other languages about Ukraine and about the Russian war against the country, and this post just points out a few recent additions.
First, a few new Ukrainian ebooks.
- Mariupolʹ na khvyli︠a︡kh istoriï by Iryna Ponamarʹova looks at the history of Mariupol, covering over 300 years up to 2022. Its cover shows the theatre that many of us will remember from its bombing by the Russians that year.
- Two books about the those serving in the Ukrainian navy and air force during the 2022- invasion: Virnistʹ, muz︠h︡nistʹ, syla by Oleh Chalyk and Na mez︠h︡i moz︠h︡lyvosteĭ by Anastasii︠a︡ Olekhnovych respectively.
- Stez︠h︡ky viĭny, stez︠h︡ky li︠u︡bovi = Paths of war, paths of love, a compilation of poems and photographs.
- The latest in a series of books by the publisher Oleksandr Krasovyt︠s︡ʹkyĭ about Ukraine’s “intellectual resistance” during the Russian war: Druhyĭ rik intelektualʹnoho sprotyvu.
I asked our English collection development specialist for a couple of recent books in English to highlight too, and she suggested the following.
- Russia’s war in Ukraine 2022 : personal experiences of Ukrainian scholars / Tetiana Kostiuchenko, Tamara Martsenyuk (eds.). (2024; purchased in print by the UL)
- Occupation : Russian rule in south-eastern Ukraine / David Lewis. (2025; received in print through Legal Deposit)
May we see books about Ukraine’s victory before too long. Here is a reminder of Cambridge4Ukraine’s page about various ways to donate to Ukrainians in Cambridge and to Ukraine more broadly: https://www.cambridge4ukraine.uk/support-ukraine/donate
