Every Autumn we highlight the major literary prizes awarded in Italy. During 2024, the following awards were made:
Bagutta prize 2024:
The first to be awarded in any calendar year, this year’s prize went to Quello che noi non siamo by Gianni
Biondillo. This novel is a story of resistance under the Fascist regime of Mussolini. The UL copy stands at C221.c.991.
Strega prize 2024:
This was awarded to Donatella Di Pietrantonio for her novel L’età fragile. The UL copy stands at C220.c.3331.
Bancarella prize 2024:
This was awarded to Aurora Tamigio’s debut novel, Il cognome delle donne, a compellingly readable family saga that captures the spirit and vitality of post-war Italy. The UL copy stands at C221.c.509.
Viareggio Repaci prizes 2024:
As is customary, there are three main categories:
Poesia – This was awarded to Stefano Dal Bianco for his collection of poems entitled Paradiso. The UL copy stands at C221.c.588.
Narrativa – This was awarded to Silvia Avallone for her novel Cuore nero. The UL copy stands at C220.c.5799.
Saggistica – This was awarded to Vincenzo Trione for his work Prologo celeste : nell’atelier di Anselm Kiefer, an in depth analysis of the mind and the work of the artist Anselm Kiefer. The UL copy stands at C220.c.3164.
Campiello prize 2024:
The last of the major literary prizes to be awarded, this was awarded in late September to Federica
Manzon for her novel Alma. The protagonist returns to her native Trieste after a time away – a novel about identity and personal and family memories. The UL copy stands at C220.c.5794.
