Kyivan Christianity – 14 new volumes : the March 2024 Ukrainian item(s) of the month

While the Ukrainian Christmas largely joined the western Christmas in 2023, this Easter will still see a substantial difference, with the western churches celebrating Christ’s resurrection in March and Ukrainians celebrating in May.  Nevertheless, the Easter weekend for most in Cambridge seems a good time to mark the arrival of many new volumes in the Kyivan Christianity set.

Earlier this month, we received fourteen volumes in the set published between 2019 and 2023, having recently reestablished a lapsed standing order with our supplier.  Sadly, amongst the new arrivals was a volume dedicated to the memory of Dr Ihor Skochyli︠a︡s who died at the age of 53 from Covid.  A theologian and historian at the Ukrainian Catholic University, Dr Skochyli︠a︡s was essentially the founder of the Kyivan Christianity (Kyïvsʹke khrystyi︠a︡nstvo) series, so the celebration of his life and research in one of its volumes is absolutely fitting.  This is the 25th volume in the series, Sub ficu.

The new arrivals are listed below.  Two are in English, and the rest have English summaries (where the translated titles are taken from).

The series does not seem to be standardly purchased by other anglophone libraries, so readers need to bear with us as we gradually catalogue our way through these new arrivals.  A few of the volumes have yet to be classified and sent to the shelf.  Do drop a line to slavonic@lib.cam.ac.uk if this is the case for any titles you are keen to use.

We wish our readers a happy and peaceful Easter.
