With the onset of autumn we take a look at the Italian literary prizes awarded during 2023.
The Bagutta prize is by tradition the first of the annual literary prizes to be awarded in any calendar year. This year, the winner was Marco Missiroli for his novel Avere tutto. Published by Einaudi in 2022, the UL copy stands at C219.c.2170.
Strega prize 2023:
This was awarded to Ada D’Adamo for her autobiographical novel Come d’Aria. Published in Rome by Elliot in 2023, the UL copy stands at C207.d.3589.
Bancarella prize 2023:
This was awarded to Francesca Giannone for her novel La Portalettere. Published in Milan by Editrice Nord in 2023, the UL copy stands at C219.c.9109.
Viareggio Repaci prizes 2023:
As is customary, there are three main categories:
Poesia – This was awarded to Vivian Lamarque for her collection of poems L’amore da vecchia. Published in Milan by Mondadori, the UL copy stands at C207.d.2828.
Narrativa – This was awarded to Niccolo Ammaniti for his novel La vita intima (Einaudi, 2023). This is Ammaniti’s second victory at Viareggio, having previously been the recipient of the same prize in 2007 for his novel Io non ho paura (Einaudi, 2001). La vita intima stands at C219.c.5633 and Io non ho paura can be requested from the Library Storage Facility.
Saggistica – This was awarded to Francesco Piccolo for his work La bella confusione – an evocative study of Italian film and culture in the 1960s, and in particular Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti. The UL copy stands at C220.c.207.
Campiello prize 2023:
Awarded in September, this brings the annual season of literary prizes to a close. This year it was awarded to Benedetta Tobagi for her work La Resistenza della donne, a moving account of the women who played a part in the fight against fascism and the struggle for liberation. Published by Einaudi, the UL copy stands at C219.c.9378.
